My name is Kevin Mancini, and I am an adventurer. I apologize for the vagueness of the term, but I hope you will forgive it once you have read a little further, since my last intention is to confuse you more than I already confuse myself.
I spend my days struggling through the meanders of mathematics, in the frenzy of implementing a new app, or in the adrenaline of climbing a rock face. Most likely, even now, I am absorbed in one of these, or perhaps in imagining the next one; or, in the words of Kazuo Ishiguro:
“It seems increasingly likely that I really will undertake the expedition that has been preoccupying my imagination now for some days.”
Though I find it slightly in poor taste, it is probably fair to give you some idea of what I actually do. I promise I will be brief. I studied Computer Science at Imperial College London and Applied Mathematics at Sapienza University of Rome. Next year I will begin a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Warwick. In the past I worked on research in deep learning; now I am mainly interested in stochastic calculus and probability. I am a former Deloitte consultant and, believe it or not, I once worked as a beach entertainer.
When I am not in the mountains or doing research, I am probably reading a book, writing, studying the piano, or following whatever other passion has happened to take hold of me.
